Lenovo has entered the market for low-cost servers with three server models, targeted at managed service providers, small businesses and branch-office deployments.
The new ThinkServers unveiled Tuesday are rack-mountable RD230 ($999) and RD240 ($1,399) and the TD230 tower server ($829).
Standard features of the RD230 and RD240 include web-enabled remote management tools for managed service providers to monitor and manage client systems, hot-swappable storage and DVD writers. The RD230 also has built-in advanced RAID for data protection. Processor options are Intel Xeon 5500 and 5600 series chips. The RD240 can have up to 8TB of storage and dual power supplies.
"Instead of offering customers expensive add-ons, we built in manageability and performance features, like remote management and hot swappable drives, that growing businesses need," Director of ThinkServer Product Marketing Tom Ribble said in a statement.
The TD230 tower server is optimized for energy savings. It features a power supply that is more than 90 percent efficient. The unit has been issued an Energy Star for Servers 1.0 rating by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Lenovo provides hardware and software telephone support around the clock, as well as on-site hardware installation and online training services for the new machines. All three ThinkServers are available immediately.
