Provider of the popular free live video streaming platform Justin.tv has chosen a TelecityGroup data center in Amsterdam to host its mission-critical infrastructure that will serve European users.
Jonathan Shipman, operations director at Justin.tv, said the company chose the facility because of the connectivity and uptime TelecityGroup was able to offer there.
“The combination of network uptime and low latency are critical for the streaming video and online gaming services we provide,” he said. “We selected TelecityGroup in the Netherlands due to its ability to provide carrier-neutral and highly diverse connectivity along with an extremely resilient and secure environment.”
US-based Justin.tv has recently launched a new video-game broadcasting and chat platform TwitchTV, and boosting service levels in Europe for the new service is one of the key reasons for taking colocation space in Amsterdam.
“TelecityGroup is the ideal partner to ensure TwitchTV can deliver a high quality of service to our users in the European market,” Shipman said.
Justin.tv’s live video platform currently serves about 31m users every month, according to TelecityGroup.
One of the major features of the provider’s data center in Amsterdam is presence of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX). A non-profit independent peering point, AMS-IX (launched in 1994) is one of the world’s largest internet exchanges.
TelecityGroup is one of the largest data center providers in Europe, with locations in Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Manchester, Milan, Paris and Stockholm.
