HP unveiled three new hardware products this week, all part of its Converged Infrastructure portfolio. They include a new blade enclosure, new networking for that enclosure and a new blade server.

David Donatelli, executive VP and general manager of HP's enterprise business, said the announcement was another step in development of the product portfolio. “We continue to innovate and extend the HP Converged Infrastructure portfolio to deliver the benefits that our business and government customers expect from us,” he said.

The new BladeSystem c7000 Platinum enclosure is designed to improve performance, efficiency and reliability of virtualized and cloud environments, according to HP. It is 10U in size and can hold up to 16 server or storage blades.

The c7000 Platinum includes a shared 5Tbps connectivity between server blades and network and shared storage. It is powered by a pooled-power backplane, offering a choice between single-phase or three-phase AC input and 48V DC input.

The blade enclosure combined with HP's new SX1018 Ethernet switch, providing low port-to-port latency and 40GB downlinks to each blade. HP says the product lends itself well to high-performance compute clusters and financial-services applications.

The eighth-generation ProLiant WS460 server blades feature high-density 3D graphics with eight GPUs per blade.

On the storage front, HP announced two new StoreVirtual storage appliances optimized to work as part of virtualized environments. StoreVirtual 4530 andf 4730 are both based on the company's eighth-generation ProLiant server technology.

Another new storage product is a mid-range solution available only through HP's channel partners called HP StoreSystem. It combines 3Par StoreServ storage and StoreOnce backup systems, which are now sold as a prepackaged solution.

Products in HP's Converged Infrastructure portfolio are meant for large-scale IT infrastructure deployments. Servers, storage, networking equipment and management software in this catalog are designed to integrate easily with each other.
