Information technology services company Infosys is building a new end-to-end technology facility that will include data center space after striking a large deal with the maker of one of the world’s most iconic motorcycle brands.

The deal with Harley-Davidson, which includes applications management, infrastructure support and hosting services, was the precursor for the new facility, which will bring Infosys’ total tech facility footprint in the US to 18.

The motorcycle company will be its lead client at the center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which is home to the US manufacturer.

The contract will see Infosys oversee the realignment of Harley-Davidson’s internal information services and technology capability, according to Harley-Davidson VP and CIO David Cotteleer.

“Given the rapidly changing IT landscape, a strategy partner can more effectively provide technology related services in many areas, including data network engineering and data center operations,” Cotteleer said.

The Harley-Davidson contract covers five years of technology and infrastructure support which will include the migration of Harley-Davidson’s current environment managed by Infosys to its new facility.

According to the New York Times, the announcement has meant that some jobs at Harley-Davidson will be lost – 125 it total (the same amount Infosys said will be created at its new facility, but it could not confirm these would all go to Harley-Davidson employees).

Harley-Davidson said it will be creating 68 information technology management jobs as a result of its outsourcing deal.

Infosys is based in India but currently has a 1,200 strong workforce in the US, which it expects to expand to close to 2,000 by the end of the year.
