Equinix said it is planning to gain full financial control of its data center campus in Ashburn, Virginia, according to reports.

The company paid US$93m to clear its mortgage for the 32-acre campus which contains 620,000 sq ft of data center space back in December according to a report by Data Center Knowledge.

The Beaumeade Business Park data center currently contains six Equinix data centers, one of which was opened just last year.

An Equinix subsidiary took out the loan with an iStar Financial subsidiary for US$60m with 20-year accrued interested at a fixed rate of 8% back in December 2005.

The original terms entered for the mortgage committed Equinix to expand to spend no less than US$40m on improvements to the park before December 2007.

The campus now has 200 networks that meet inside the data center.
