Telecom provider CenturyLink has expanded its data center reach to the bright lights of Las Vegas, moving into local data center provider Switch's 1.7 million sq ft SUPERNAP facility.
The deal lets CenturyLink’s customers use Switch's hosting and colo space, while Switch’s customers get access to CenturyLink's cloud services and can use its s 57 data centers across the globe.
In June the huge Las Vegas facility was awarded Tier IV Gold from the Uptime Institute for its operations – making it the first data center in the world to receive the certification. The facility is also Tier IV certified for its design and facility.
Expanding worldwide
Though it moved in with a partner here, CenturyLink has built plenty of its own data centers, including new facilities in Minneapolis, Toronto, Phoenix and Hong Kong. The company has also added further colo space to existing facilities in Chicago and Irvine.
CenturyLink’s Minneapolis facility gained Uptime Institute Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility in July, making it the first in Minnesota to gain the certification.
Its Toronto data center also received Uptime Institute Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility and also gained Tier III Certification for its design documents.
CenturyLink said it is looking to receive Tier III certification for both design and construction across all of its new builds.
