Social media platform X has suffered multiple network outages today (March 10).

Downdetector US has noted three separate spikes on the site formerly known as Twitter, peaking at around more than 40,000 reports of an outage on the social media platform owned by Elon Musk.

The first outage took place around 5:00 am ET, with more than 20,000 reporting an issue, before the problem appeared to have been sorted.

However, around three hours later, more than 41,000 people noted on Downdetector that they were still having problems with the platform.

That number significantly dropped at around 9:45am ET, before it was reported that X had suffered a third outage in the space of six hours.

At the time of writing, close to 30,000 people in the US have noted on Downdetector that the site is still down for them.

The issue has also impacted users in the UK, where more than 10,000 users have been affected.

X has suffered multiple major outages since Musk's $44 billion acquisition of Twitter in 2022.

Update: In a statement at 12:25 pm, Musk claimed that a cyberattack was the cause of the multiple outages.

"There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X," said Musk via X. "We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing."
