A tower technician was critically injured last week after coming into contact with a high-voltage power line.

The man, who has not been named, was working on a cell phone tower in Burleson, Texas, on Friday (January 24) when the incident happened, reports Wireless Estimator.

Burleson Fire Chief Casey Davis confirmed that three workers were on the tower, located in the 800 block of North Burleson Boulevard when a call for help was made at 11:50 am, after a report that one of the workers had been electrocuted.

Firefighters arrived to find the man stranded on the tower due to his injuries.

To facilitate a safe rescue, energy company Oncor de-energized the adjacent substation at around 1 pm, temporarily cutting power to approximately 5,000 customers.

The firefighters managed to secure the worker into a harness by 3:50 pm, before lowering him to a fire department ladder truck.

The man was in critical condition due to the severity of his injuries and exposure to wind and cold but remained conscious and communicative with rescuers.

His condition was promising, noted Davis, who added that he was transported to a burn facility for further treatment.

It's not known what company the man is employed by. The tower, which is 200 feet tall, is owned by Verizon, which erected the structure in 1997.
