Totem CEO Nicolas Roy has announced he will step aside to lead Orange Group's data center strategy and business development unit.

Roy revealed the career change in an announcement on LinkedIn.

"Accessing, storing, and processing data reliably, quickly, and securely is central to AI. Once again, infrastructure is at the heart of this revolution, and among them, data centers play a key role," said Roy.

"As AI, cloud computing, and digital sovereignty reshape our world, scalable and high-performance data centers are critical to enabling the next wave of innovation. I’m excited to take on this challenge and help shape the future of Orange’s data center ecosystem."

Roy has been CEO of Totem, Orange's tower-focused subsidiary, since the division launched in October 2021.

Totem operates more than 27,000 towers in France and Spain. Unlike a lot of mobile operators that have sold passive infrastructure assets to fund network rollouts, the carrier has insisted it has no interest in following suit, something Roy reiterated to DCD last year.

He has been at Orange since October 2003, according to his LinkedIn bio, initially serving as head of networks.

Prior to leading Totem, he was CTO of Orange France.

Orange owns 75 data centers across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The company refers to data centers as the "network brain" on its website.
