Proposed by Beijing Haoyang Cloud&Data Technology, Empyrion Digital, and GSA Data Center 02, the new data centers will total 350MW of IT capacity.

China's Beijing Haoyang Cloud&Data Technology is planning to invest 72.7 billion baht ($2.164bn) in developing a 300MW data center in WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 4 in Rayong Province.

Singapore-based Empyrion is planning to invest 4.72 billion baht ($140.5m) in a 12MW data center located in Bangkok, while Thai company GSA Data Center 02 Co. Ltd. will spend 13.5 billion baht ($401.9m) on a 35MW data center in Chonburi Province.

The Empyrion data center was previously announced by the company in November 2024. Located in Bang Na, the TH1 facility will span 9,960 sqm (107,210 sq ft) and offer connectivity to all fiber providers in the city. The company said the facility will be optimized for AI and cloud workloads and is expected to be ready for service by Q1 2027.

Narit Therdsteerasukdi, secretary general of the BOI, said of the projects: “Ensuring that the digital infrastructure, including data centers, keeps in line with the demand of foreign investors and local entrepreneurs is essential to Thailand’s competitiveness in the age of the digital economy.”

Beijing Haoyang Cloud&Data Technology is also developing data centers in Beijing, Macao, and Yangtze in China, and Hong Kong.

Thailand is seeing a lot of emerging interest, particularly from hyperscalers.

Earlier this month, TikTok committed to investing $8.8 billion over the next five years in data centers in Thailand. AWS launched a cloud region in Thailand earlier this year, and Alibaba Cloud also launched a second data center in the country in February. Google has plans for a Thai cloud region it revealed in August 2022, and in September 2024, said it planned to spend $1 billion on cloud and data infrastructure in the country. Microsoft also plans to build a data center region in Thailand.

In November 2024, the Board of Investment approved close to $1.8 billion in data center projects in Thailand, including a data center for Google and another by GDS subsidiary DigitalLand Services.
