Further to a story on ZDTweb.com 18 January, Terramark has announced plans to construct a data center facility in Culpeper, Virginia. The facility will provide a secured infrastructure for the Federal Government to store, manage, and exchange information.
According to a report on Times Community News, the property sits adjacent to the Germanna Community College Campus and will occupy the land which formerly held Old House Winery and Vineyards. The property currently falls into Culpeper's technology zone which was created by the county and incorporated into the comprehensive plan.
The master plan for the site calls for five data center pods that will each house commercial or government sector technology customers. The pods will be 50,000 sq-ft each and will be highly secured and designed to the strictest security standards. The center will be the largest built in Virginia since the 1990s, according to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP).
