In addition to the new cloud region, Tencent will open a new office in Osaka to help create more jobs in the region.

Dowson Tong, senior executive vice president and CEO of Tencent's Cloud & Smart Industries Group (CSIG), said: "Tencent Cloud aims to continue to be a technology enabler for Japanese companies to help them achieve their business goals and strengthen their competitiveness through cutting-edge cloud, AI, and media solutions. As we expand our global infrastructure network, we look forward to further strengthening our support to help our customers and partners grow and operate globally."

According to the company, Tencent has seen double-digit growth rates in Japan over the last five years, which has motivated the expansion.

Hanson Liu, head of Tencent Cloud Japan, added: "We are committed to further expanding our capabilities in Japan and deepening collaboration with business partners who make the most of our innovative cloud, AI, media, and fintech solutions."

The new region was announced at Tencent Cloud Day 2025 in Tokyo on April 15. Existing customers of Tencent Cloud in Japan include gaming companies Aiming Inc., KMS Inc., and media services such as Pokekara, ColorSing, and Mixcha.

Tencent Cloud entered Japan in 2019, though it first shared plans in 2018, adding a second data center availability zone in 2021. In 2022, reports emerged that the company was exploring opening a third data center in the country.

The company currently has a global network of 56 availability zones across 21 regions.
