Telx has hired John Abbot, whose resume includes positions at companies like Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, as its CFO.

Abbot joins the New York City-based data center provider from Insight Communications, where he also served as CFO as well as executive VP. Insight is a US telco Time Warner Cable acquired for US$3bn in 2011.

Prior to Insight, Abbot worked for 12 years as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.

Abbot will help shape and drive key aspects of Telx's financial investments and strategic direction, the company said.

He is replacing Chris Downie in the CFO seat since Downie has been appointed to the role of CEO at Telx. The company's previous CEO Eric Shepcaro passed away in May 2013.

Downie said he was excited to bring aboard a team member of Abbot's caliber. “John's institutional knowledge and proven track record from both the financial and technology worlds makes him a highly valuable addition to our team,” he said.

Telx is one of the largest data center providers in the US. Its 20-facility data center network extends across major metro markets in New York, Florida, Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina, Texas, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and California.
