Telekom Malaysia (TM) has unveiled a GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) offering.
Announced on Friday December 13, the GPUaaS is hosted entirely within Malaysia, with TM claiming it is the first of its kind in the country.
The GPUaaS will use Nvidia GPUs and will be hosted at TM's Uptime Tier-III certified data centers in Malaysia.
Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, TM’s group CEO, said: “TM’s GPUaaS will further enhance our digital infrastructure and support the nation’s AI aspiration. By offering cost-efficient access to high-performance computing for AI model training and inferencing, we enable businesses and the government sector to adopt AI-driven solutions with greater ease, ensuring both operational efficiency and scalability.
“Our GPUaaS design is modular and scalable, catering to various user needs. Leveraging this agility, we are pleased to announce that TM has secured an international customer for GPUaaS requirement to be delivered by year-end. This initiative underscores TM’s commitment to empower industries and unlock new opportunities through AI infrastructure, as we align our Digital Powerhouse 2030 aspiration to fast forward the future of a Digital Malaysia.”
The "international customer" has not been named.
TM revealed it was expanding two of its data centers in Cyberjaya (KVDC) and Johor (IPDC) in November, planning to add a total of 20MW of compute capacity to the sites. The expanded capacity will go live in 2025.
KVDC launched in 2019, the site offers 90,000 sq ft (8,300 sqm) of white space and up to 25MVA of capacity. Launched in 2017, IPDC also has around 90,000 sq ft (8,300 sqm) of white space. The twin facilities were first announced in 2016. As well as the two core facilities in Klang Valley and Johor, TM currently operates four other data centers and seven Edge facilities across Malaysia and one in Hong Kong.
