KDDI’s Telehouse has invested €1 billion ($1.07bn) in expanding its data center footprint in France.
The investment will see the building of a 60,000 sqm (645,835 sq ft), 50MW facility near Marseille in Bouches-du-Rhône by 2027, as reported by Le Journal des Enterprises.
The exact location of the facility is not yet known.
In addition to the Marseille project, the company plans to build a facility in the eastern Île-de-France region by 2029 and expand its existing facilities in Paris and Yvelines, just outside of Paris.
DCD reached out to Telehouse for more information.
The company already operates an 8,000 sqm (86,111 sq ft) facility in Marseille, which serves as a cable landing station for several subsea cables.
Across Europe, Telehouse operates 11 data centers in London, United Kingdom; Frankfurt Germany; and Paris and Marseille in France.
Marseille is currently home to the likes of Digital Realty and Exa Infrastructure, as well as being a key landing point for numerous subsea cables such as 2Africa, Blue, Hawk, Medloop, Medusa, Peace, SeaMeWe-4, and Atlas Offshore.
The Africa-1, IEX, EMC West-2, and SeaMeWe-6 cables are set to land in the city in the coming years.
