Tata Communications has launched a new cloud offering called Tata Communications Vayu.
Vayu is a fully integrated cloud ecosystem that combines IaaS, PaaS, AI, security, and connectivity offerings, and the company claims it can reduce cloud costs by up to 30 percent.
The cloud platform can be customized for different sectors, including government, finance, and retail customers.
According to the company, Vayu can deliver 30 percent cost savings while optimizing workload performance and, compared with large cloud service providers, it reduces costs by 15-25 percent with no data egress charges.
Part of the offering is an AI Cloud, which will give customers access to Nvidia GPUs for AI model training, fine-tuning, and deployment at scale. Specific GPUs were not shared.
According to the company, Vayu ensures "seamless data accessibility across different environments — on-premises, in the cloud, or at the Edge."
It will be hosted at Tata Communication's data centers. The company is planning to introduce direct liquid cooling at the facilities to support the high-performance computing infrastructure and improve the efficiency of the data centers.
A.S. Lakshminarayanan, MD & CEO, Tata Communications, said: "As the digital era accelerates, the need for enterprise cloud and AI solutions that balance performance, cost, and sustainability has never been greater. Tata Communications Vayu is more than a product — it will pioneer a new way forward for businesses to integrate, uncomplicate, and innovate."
Bhaskar Gorti, EVP of cloud and cybersecurity services, Tata Communications, added: "Tata Communications Vayu signifies a transformational shift. Enterprises today need more than just basic cloud services, and our latest offering is the beginning of a new chapter in cloud evolution — one where technology is no longer an obstacle but an enabler of limitless possibilities."
LightReading reports that Gorti added that the company is primarily targeting large enterprises and startups, though added: "Academia is a clear goal we have because they want to use it for their foundational model building or use case models or specific vertical industry AI apps. So they are building those and they need infrastructure."
Tata Communications has been investing around $50 million in its cloud services for the last three years, with total capex typically between $200-300m annually. LightReading reports that a significant part of this will be spent on developing new products and solutions.
It has not been shared which data centers Vayu will be hosted in, though India is Tata's largest market for cloud services.
According to Tata Communication's website, the company has data centers in 44 locations worldwide. Data Center Map lists 21 data centers operated by Tata Communications in India, Singapore, the UK, Portugal, and the US. The company also leases space in other colocation providers' facilities.
