Stream Data Centers, a Dallas-based data center developer, has kicked off construction of a 76,000 sq ft data center in San Antonio, Texas.

The company specializes in building data centers for corporate users. San Antonio is home to a lot of financial services, healthcare and government organizations and has also recently seen an influx of major oil and gas companies, who have moved in to extract oil and gas from the Eagle Ford Shale, a sedimentary rock formation under the southern part of Texas.

Rob Kennedy, co-managing partner at Stream, said, “San Antonio's central location, reliable infrastructure and stable cost of electricity make it a great choice for national enterprise users to locate and operate their mission-critical infrastructure.”

The greenfield development sits on 9.6 acres in the Westover Hills Business Park, a master-planned business park complete with fiber and power infrastructure. The location is close to other data centers occupied by national and multinational corporations, according to the developer.

The facility will deliver 7.2MW of critical power delivered by two feeds from two separate substations. The design will include the company's standard 2N electrical and N+1 mechanical configuration and redundant telecommunication rooms.

The data center will initially be divided into three 10,000 sq ft suites, which can be further divided in 200kW sections if necessary. Each suite will also provide 4,500 sq ft of private, dedicated office space for disaster recovery.

Stream has built data centers in Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis and Denver. Its clients include Apple, Nokia, AT&T and the Home Depot, among others.
