Samsung has invested in Helix Digital Infrastructure, the new data center developer set up by investment firm KKR.
Helix and KKR today (September 29) announced that Samsung has committed $1 billion to Helix through its long-duration capital fund. The new funding will provide additional long-duration capital to support Helix’s build-out.
Helix was founded earlier this year, led by former AWS CEO Adam Selipsky, with plans to deliver hyperscale data centers with integrated power supply agreements. The company has yet to reveal any details on planned projects.
The companies said Samsung’s investment builds on the more than $10bn of capital Helix has secured from investors including KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA), Nvidia, and Vistra.
“Samsung's commitment is a strong vote of confidence in Helix's strategy and further deepens the long-term capital base we've built to meet the scale of AI infrastructure demand,” said Selipsky, CEO and co-founder of Helix. “As one of the world's leading technology companies, Samsung brings unique capabilities that we expect will benefit Helix and its customers, and we look forward to working together to accelerate the deployment of next-generation digital infrastructure for hyperscalers around the world.”
Helix said it expects to explore opportunities to “leverage Samsung’s capabilities” across areas such as advanced technology, construction, energy storage, and cooling.
