QTS has leased a 756,000 sq ft (70,234 sqm) building near Kansas City for a new data center development.

The Blackstone-owned firm will take control of Building B1 at the New Century Commerce Center (NCCC), located at 16175 John Glenn Parkway in Johnson County, 25 miles southwest of Kansas City in New Century, Kansas.

Specifications of the data center have not been shared.

Work on the building was completed in 2023. It was constructed by Van Trust Real Estate LLC, which is developing the NCCC as an industrial park for the region, adjacent to New Century Airfield.

“This progress highlights the strong demand for industrial space at New Century Commerce Center,” said Justin Duff, vice president of development at Van Trust Real Estate. “With the addition of QTS and continued strong lease activity, NCCC remains a prime location for businesses seeking new space in the south Johnson County market.”

QTS was founded in Kansas, and according to its website maintains its original data center at its Overland Park headquarters. Running since 2003, it has 200kW of power.

The firm does not have any other data centers in the state, but operates facilities across the US and around the world, and was purchased by Blackstone for $10 billion back in 2021.

In 2023 it was reported that QTS was set to take space at the Diode Ventures data center park in Kansas City, but pulled out of a deal due to concerns over power supply.
