Data center firm PowerHouse has partnered with Provident Data Centers for the development of a 768-acre data center campus in Texas.

Provident Data Centers is the data center arm of the Dallas-based real estate development firm Provident.

The joint venture plans on building a hyperscale campus in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. It marks PowerHouse’s second Texas project, having announced a 200MW project in Irving area of Dallas last year.

Details of the development have not yet been disclosed.

“The demands on digital infrastructure are accelerating like never before, driven by explosive growth in data, AI, and cloud services,” said Provident founder and CEO Leon Backes. “This project is designed to meet those needs by creating spaces designed for rapid scalability, high-density power requirements, and seamless connectivity.”

Doug Fleit, CEO and co-founder of PowerHouse, added: “Our partnership with Provident is fortified by pioneering expertise, collaboration, and forward-thinking vision. This is more than just a data center; it’s the future of digital infrastructure. We’re building a new frontier in the heart of Texas.”

Backes also said the joint venture would be receptive and responsive to community concerns and would endeavor to address local needs when developing the campus.

Provident offers data center development services, including securing locations, feasibility studies, power procurement, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure design. Its current portfolio includes nine data center projects; eight in Texas and one in New Mexico.

The developer also announced plans to build a data center on a 200-acre site in northwest Indiana in May last year. The plan was rejected. Provident then pitched a seven-building campus in Burns Harbor, Indiana, in August.

Last year, Provident sold a warehouse site to PowerHouse for its existing Texas site in Irving.

Founded in 2022, PowerHouse is a wholly-owned division of American Real Estate Partners and has around 5.9GW of capacity either planned or under construction in Northern Virginia, Virginia, Texas, and North Carolina.

In December last year, CyrusOne acquired PowerHouse’s Ashburn facility ABX-1 in Virginia. PowerHouse had formerly been leasing the facility to CyrusOne since May 2023.
