Vodafone Australia has confirmed that a power failure at its Sydney data center caused disruption to broadband services today.
The carrier blamed the power failure on a massive storm.
The outage, which disrupted Australians this evening local time for several hours, impacted broadband services for Vodafone, plus TPG Telecom, iiNet, Internode, and Kogan fixed Internet customers.
Downdetector indicates that reported outages peaked at 5:37pm local time for TPG Telecom, when more than 14,000 noted issues with the network, while numbers topped 1,000 for Vodafone.
Vodafone is a subsidiary of TPG Telecom, following Vodafone Hutchison Australia Limited and TPG Corporation Limited's merger in 2020.
Numbers have since dropped to normal levels.
"A storm-related power failure at our Sydney data center disrupted broadband services this evening. Connectivity is gradually being restored for customers, and we are working on restoring all services as soon as possible," said Vodafone Australia in a statement around four hours ago.
iiNet issued a similar statement. The company offers mobile plans via Vodafone's mobile network.
In its own statement, NBN Australia, noted that its own network was unaffected.
