Poland’s National Data Processing Center project has received PLN 1.56 billion ($401m) from the European Funds for Digital Development program

The government of Poland has announced its receipt of a grant of PLN 1.56 billion ($401m) from the European Union’s European Funds for Digital Development (FERC) program to build a National Data Processing Center (KCPD).

Overseen by the country’s Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Scientific and Academic Computer Network – National Research Institute (NASK-PIB), the project will construct three connected data centers in different locations across the country. This will be supplemented by the creation of fiber-optic connections and IT infrastructure.

DCD has approached Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs for comment.

First announced in 2022, the KCPD was conceived as a means to strengthen the cybersecurity resilience of the Polish government. The plan called for three data centers, each occupying 2,000 sqm (21,500 sq ft), built to the EN 50600 standard and connected by a fiber-optic network to ensure independent communication between facilities.

Originally planned to be built between 2024 and 2026, construction was delayed due to the cancellation of an earlier procurement round. The estimated cost of the KCPD has also risen, from PLN 1 billion (then $280m) in 2025 to a ceiling of PLN 1.6 billion ($411m) this year for the first phase of development, according to reporting by CRN. The three data centers are now estimated to be completed by 2029.

In a separate announcement, Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs has also confirmed receipt of a PLN 172.7 million ($44.3m) grant from the FERC program to expand its Government Cloud Computing (RCho) project. According to CRN, the funds will expand RCho’s cloud infrastructure, create new applications and IT solutions, and pave the way for integration with future AI services. A call for proposals to expand RCho by the Ministry of Digital Affairs was made in April of this year.

Poland has emerged as a vibrant data center market, with several major developments announced in the past year. According to a recent report by consultancy PwC and analysis by xyz.pl, the sector is expected to receive cumulative investments of up to PLN 292.90 billion ($75.3bn) between 2027 and 2036.
