The first facility on the campus was delivered in Q4 2022. Together, the two facilities offer 48MW of IT capacity.

The campus is located next to the Kalwa substation, providing reliable power and network connectivity, said the company.

MU1 also offers hybrid cooling capabilities and is designed to handle AI workloads and the needs of hyperscalers. It is also powered by renewable energy from a captive solar plant, as part of a deal agreed with Tata in 2023.

In September last year, PDG announced it would partner with Mindspace REIT to develop an additional three data centers on the same plot at the Mindspace Airoli West business park. The final three data centers will bring the campus total to 150MW of IT capacity.

Around the same time, PDG announced plans to invest $1 billion into India, bringing its portfolio in the country to 230MW, with a particular focus on the Chennai and Mumbai markets.

PDG was set up with the help of Warburg Pincus in 2017 and operates data centers in China, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Japan. Mubadala is also an investor.

Mumbai is home to operators such as Digital Edge, Iron Mountain, NTT, CtrlS, Nxtra, Tata, and Equinix.

Last year also saw STT GDC and AWS announce plans to invest in India.
