Asian comms giant Pacnet said it will offer Virtual Private Server (VPS), its infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution to the Thai market as it rolls out its data center based services offerings across the region.
The offering to the Thai market will be based on Microsoft Windows Server Standard or Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the operating system of the virtual server. Optional features include additional virtual CPU, storage or software, which may also be included as part of the service package.
Hosted from Bangkok, Pacnet VPS will use the company’s Internet Services.
"As today's businesses grow in this era of 'big data', they have to manage a massive amount of data and yet find cost-effective and reliable platforms to host their applications in the cloud," said Chris Wilson, Senior Vice President of Product Strategy and Management, Pacnet.
"Businesses get access to reliable and scalable server hosting environments without requiring a huge upfront capital investment. We have seen a growing number of organizations in Thailand, especially in key industries such as manufacturing, recognizing the need for an IaaS solution such as Pacnet VPS," said Paisan Kaweyanun, Country Manager, Pacnet Thailand.
The move comes two weeks after the firm parted company with long term CEO, Bill Barney in what some commentators saw as being prompted by a move further into cloud services and away from a reliance on a pure networking and carrier infrastructure play.
On May 22nd Pacnet issued a statement which quoted James Ousley, who was appointed as Pacnet’s Chairman at the start of the year, in which he said: “Pacnet has a well-established track record in the data center business and a best-in-class integrated communications infrastructure in Asia Pacific. We see tremendous opportunities for Pacnet to further expand its network, data center and CDN offerings as the region’s digital appetite, user base and demand for end-to-end multi-media streaming continues to grow.”
The service is also offered on a monthly fee over 12, 24 or 36-month terms.
Pacnet VPS is also available in Australia, with availability in other key locations to be announced at a later date.
