Pacnet has broken ground on a new Data Landing Station that will double as a Tier III data center in Hong Kong.
The hosting company's data landing stations are strategically located cable landing stations situated across Asia for low latency connections.
The hosting company is working with engineering consultancy Meinhardt on its most recent landing station, which will be designed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.
The data center will support 800 racks and will be built for a total IT load of 3MW in phase one.
It will be Pacnet's second Data Landing Station in the country. It opened its first in November last year.
Pacnet CTO Wilfred Kwan said the facility will sit within the site of the Pacnet's EAC-1 CLS subsea cable in Tseung Kwan O.
"Our DLSs in Tseung Kwan O are unique data center facilities in Hong Kong," Kwan said.
"Customers are recognizing these advantages and our second DLS here in Hong Kong will enable us to meet the growing demand, while enhancing Hong Kong's position as a strategic location in our regional data center expansion plans."
