European data center firm NorthC has started construction on a new facility in Geneva, Switzerland.
“This is a milestone for NorthC and another significant step in our growth in the DACH region,” the company said on LinkedIn this week. “A big thank you to HIAG and our other partners, the local authorities and everyone who made this special moment possible. We look forward to welcoming our first customers here soon.”
Plans for a Geneva data center were first announced in January 2026. Located at Rte du Nant-d'Avril 152 in Meyrin, the modular facility will offer 4.5MW of IT capacity across 5,400 sqm (58,125 sq ft), delivered in increments of 1.5MW. Construction is expected to be completed by Q2 2028.
NorthC said the new facility will use a waterless cooling system, support direct-to-chip liquid cooling, and utilize HVO instead of diesel for its backup generators. It will make its waste heat available for local heating networks.
NorthC managing director for Switzerland, Urs Bürgisser, added: “Proud to have been part of the groundbreaking ceremony for our new Geneva data center in Meyrin last week. An exciting milestone and another step forward for NorthC in supporting Switzerland’s digital future.”
NorthC was formed in 2019 from the merger of Dutch data center firms TDCG and NLDC, originally a subsidiary of Dutch telecoms company KPN. Antin Infrastructure Partners acquired the company in December 2025. The company currently has more than a dozen data centers across the Netherlands, eight in Germany, and four in Switzerland, with more in development in all three markets.
The firm entered Switzerland in 2022 with the acquisition of Netrics. NorthC took over three data centers – two in Münchenstein near Basel and one in Biel – with a total floor space of 13,000 sqm (140,000 sq ft) and more than 7.5MW of capacity. The company then acquired a 1.8MW facility outside Zurich a year later from IT services firm Kyndryl in a sale-leaseback deal.
NorthC announced plans for a new facility in Basel in September 2025. The first phase of the new facility, set to launch in mid-2027, will offer 5.5MW across 2,500 sqm (26,910 sq ft).
The company is also expanding its data center in Biel, adding a further 2MW of capacity. Working with Edico Engineering and Tri-Air, the project will focus on the expansion of the cooling supply and the UPS systems, as well as the review of the emergency power systems.
Built in 2018, Netrics acquired the Biel facility in early 2021. The company was already the anchor tenant at the 3,000 sqm (32,200 sq ft) 4MW data center.
