In a recent LinkedIn post, the company said: “The first pile for the expansion of our data center in Aalsmeer is in the ground! To kick off the work, managing director Jan Willem Dees turned on the drill.”

The Aalsmeer facility is one of four located in the Amsterdam region. Located in the Hornmeer business park, the facility currently offers 14MW of IT capacity across 4,600 sqm (49,500 sq ft) of white space.

Timelines for the expansion have not yet been provided, nor have further specifications.

NorthC added the expansion has been built in response to “the growing demand for reliable, scalable, and sustainable IT infrastructure in the Amsterdam metropolitan area.

NorthC was formed in 2019 from the merger of Dutch data center firms TDCG and NLDC, originally a subsidiary of Dutch telecoms company KPN. In recent years, it has begun expanding to other European countries, buying Netrics in Switzerland and the IP Exchange in Germany.

NorthC currently operates 13 facilities across the Netherlands in Almere, Amsterdam, Oude Meer, Delft, Rotterdam (x3), Eindhoven (x2), Groningen (x2), and Nieuwegein. The company plans to add 11MW of IT capacity across its Dutch data centers.

Most recently, the company announced it would expand its German data center footprint with facilities in Frankfurt and Berlin, both set to launch in 2026. Its existing German data center footprint includes facilities in Munich and Nuremberg. Both are also due to undergo expansions this year, though further details have not been shared.

NorthC also operates four data centers in Switzerland.

Aalsmeer, meaning "eel-lake," is located just outside of Amsterdam, and is home to operators such as nLighten, CloudHQ, and NTT. Amsterdam is a popular data center market with Digital Realty, Switch, CyrusOne, Cogent, AtlasEdge, and Equinix all having a presence in the capital.
