Microsoft is planning to expand its cloud computing services in Luxembourg.
The company, through its Microsoft Belux (Belgium-Luxembourg) department, will bring the cloud offering to Luxembourg in 2026.
According to the company, this will give Luxembourg-based customers access to Microsoft's cloud computing offerings while maintaining data sovereignty and reducing latency.
In a post on LinkedIn, Microsoft said: "[In] early 2026, we will launch expanded cloud solutions in the country. This not only brings cutting-edge cloud solutions closer to Luxembourgish businesses but also aligns with the national strategy for digitalization, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
"Microsoft has been actively supporting the Luxembourgish economy and businesses for over 20 years, and this new milestone reinforces our long-term commitment to the country."
The offering will be launched in partnership with Deep, Post Luxembourg.
In a report by Delano, Microsoft's Luxembourg country manager Sébastien Respaut is quoted saying that the company has been working on the project for just over three years, and the first goal is to install an "entry point to the Microsoft network on Luxembourg soil," noting that currently customers have to connect via Frankfurt, Amsterdam, or Paris.
Following that, Microsoft will set up "an infrastructure managed entirely by Microsoft."
Respaut added: "The data will be hosted in a data center in Luxembourg. As a general rule, Microsoft does not disclose the location of its data centers. But I must stress that the data and metadata will be in Luxembourg, and will be operated under what are known as EU Data Boundaries."
It seems likely that the company will be hosting its cloud in a Deep data center - the named partner - with Respaut noting that its partners needed "significant additional investment" to make its data center able to meet Microsoft's criteria.
According to Data Center Map, Deep has two primary data centers in Luxembourg, and three "DEEP Resilience" data centers.
Luxembourg's Minister of Economy, SME, Energy, and Tourism, Lex Delles, said in an interview with Microsoft: "I believe the cloud is very important. First, it allows businesses to grow. Collaboration between companies is essential for Luxembourg's economic fabric."
Deep's director, Ludovic Gilles, added: "Cloud will benefit, in general, the economy and will be fueling the growth of digital transformation. If I speak specifically about the SMEs, the small and medium businesses, I think they are definitely in need of cloud services. They do not necessarily have the resources needed to build and maintain IT environments, and being able to rely on partners such as Deep and Microsoft to support their digital transformation will be essential.
Deep is the result of a merging of Post's four subsidiaries: EBRC, Elgon, Digora Luxembourg, and the B2B activities of POST Telecom. The company offers cloud, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence services among others. In November 2024, Deep announced it would be launching a sovereign cloud with OVHcloud which would be hosted in Deep's data centers.
This week, Microsoft revealed it was planning to spend $80 billion on building AI data centers in the 2025 financial year, a significant increase from last year.
