Energy firm AES Corp this week announced the signing of three agreements with Microsoft for projects in the MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator) grid in the US Midwest.
The three agreements include two solar projects nearing completion in Michigan and Missouri, expected to come online in the first half of 2025, in addition to a third solar project in Illinois. The three projects total a combined 475MW.
“We are collaborating once again with Microsoft to deliver value beyond the projects alone, and providing solutions to support their operations,” said Kleber Costa, chief commercial officer of AES’ US Renewables business.
Together, AES and Microsoft have signed over 1GW of PPAs across the US and Latin America. The companies previously signed a 154MW wind PPA in Brazil, in addition to a renewable energy deal to power the cloud company’s data center in Virginia and California, as well as facilities in Chile.
So far, 2025 has seen Microsoft sign PPAs with Energia in Ireland and with EDP Renewables in Illinois and Texas.
Microsoft is one of the largest corporate buyers of renewable energy in the world – the company has previously told DCD it has brought more than 34GW of capacity to the grid.
