rPlus Energies has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Idaho Power and Meta to deliver solar capacity to the social media firm's data center in Kuna, Idaho.

The PPA will deliver 100 percent of the capacity of the 125MW Pleasant Valley Solar 2 project to Meta. The project is expected to begin construction in late 2024.

“We’re excited to expand our work with Idaho Power and rPlus Energies to add new renewable energy to the Idaho grid with Pleasant Valley Solar 2,” said Urvi Parekh, global head of clean and renewable energy at Meta.

The project is being developed through Idaho Power’s Clean Energy Your Way – Construction Program, which provides options for businesses looking to meet corporate sustainability or carbon emission goals.

The project's first phase, the 200MW Pleasant Valley Solar 1, is currently under construction. Commercial operations are slated for early 2025. Both projects will provide power to Meta’s data center and the broader Idaho grid.

Meta has signed several PPAs across the US market in 2024. At the beginning of the month, it signed an agreement with Engie North America to procure 260MW of energy from its Sypert Branch solar project in Milam County, Texas.

Meta has also signed PPAs in Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, and Louisiana this year for over 1.2GW of contracted power.
