Energy firm RWE this week announced that Meta will purchase 100 percent of the output from the upcoming Waterloo Solar project in Bastrop County, Texas.

Construction on the solar farm is set to start in late 2025.

Christoph Hunfeld, chief commercial officer, RWE Clean Energy, said: “RWE’s partnership with Meta underscores the importance of unleashing American electricity generation from all sources to support load growth in Texas and across the US. These collaborations enable us to continue investing in communities across America like Bastrop County, helping to stimulate job creation and economic prosperity, while simultaneously helping companies like Meta match the electricity use of their operations with clean and renewable energy.”

Urvi Parekh, head of global energy at Meta, added: “We’re excited to expand our partnership with RWE and look forward to the Waterloo solar project coming online.”

Meta signed two PPAs with RWE totaling 374MW from projects in Illinois and Louisiana in August. The companies also previously signed a 150MW solar PPA in Tennessee in May 2021.

RWE has also signed a wind deal with Vodafone in Germany, and a wind PPA in Texas with Microsoft.
