Malaysian infrastructure firm Gamuda is moving into data centers and acquired a plot outside Kuala Lumpur that could reportedly support up to 1GW of capacity.
Last week the company announced its wholly owned indirect subsidiary, Gamuda DC Infrastructure Sdn Bhd, had entered into a Sale and Purchase Agreement with West Synergy Sdn Bhd to acquire land in Port Dickson, for a planned data center.
The company has bought the freehold on around 389 acres of land in the Mukim Jimah, in the state of Negeri Sembilan, for RM424.4 million ($94m). The sale is set to close at the end of July 2025.
Precise details weren’t shared, but Gamuda said the acquired land is “intended for development in relation to cloud/data center infrastructure.”
In its own announcement, West Synergy owner MUI Properties said the land was acquired for Gamuda’s High Tech Digital Infrastructure Hub.
However, a report suggests the site, located in the Springhill Industrial Park, Bandar Springhill, could support between 700MW-1GW of data center capacity.
Port Dickson is located some 90km south of Kuala Lumpur, on the banks of the Malacca Strait.
Founded in 1976, Gamuda is an engineering, property, and infrastructure firm. It is one of the largest infrastructure companies in Malaysia, with investments across airports, roads, rail, townships, renewable energy, water, and more.
Gamuda has previously been involved with the development of AIMS' data center in Cyberjaya.
The land seller, West Synergy, is owned by Peristal Enterprise Sdn Bhd (itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of MUI Properties Bhd) and Double Alliance Sdn Bhd (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chin Teck Plantations Bhd).
