Lumos Networks has outlined plans to expand its fiber network to Georgia.
In an announcement this week, Lumos revealed its latest expansion plans will see the company deliver 5,000 miles of fiber Internet across the state.
Lumos said that its investment in Georgia will provide more than 320,000 homes and businesses in Georgia with fiber broadband.
The announcement comes a couple of weeks after Lumos outlined similar expansion plans in Florida.
“Expanding our network into Georgia will be extremely beneficial for the state, enhancing educational opportunities and supporting business and economic growth,” said Lumos CEO Brian Stading.
Its entrance into Georgia means that it becomes the ninth state that Lumos operates in.
Virginia-based Lumos operates in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, while it has plans to deploy its fiber in Florida, Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama, and Illinois.
Lumos stated that the expansion into Georgia is part of the company's plans to cover underserved and unserved areas of the state.
The ISP will deploy its fiber network in Clayton, Forsyth, and Muscogee County, servicing the cities of Columbus, College Park, Cumming, Forest Park, Jonesboro, Lake City, Lovejoy, Morrow, and Riverdale.
Construction of its network in the state is already underway.
T-Mobile announced last year that it agreed to acquire Lumos as part of a joint venture (JV) with EQT Infrastructure from EQT’s predecessor fund, EQT Infrastructure III.
Lumos will transition to a wholesale model, while T-Mobile will serve as the anchor tenant.
The transaction is expected to close early this year.
