Fiber provider Lumos has outlined plans to expand its offering to Florida.

The company said it will begin construction of its fiber rollout soon. This will be the eighth state in the US that Lumos serves.

Lumos said it will initially deploy around 7,500 miles of fiber optic Internet in the state.

According to the company, its Internet service will pass nearly half a million homes and small businesses in the state.

Lumos will deploy its fiber to Osecola, Escambia, Citrus, Lee, Pinellas, and Charlotte County. The company claims that its fiber will be the first available to some of those markets.

“Reliable, high-speed connectivity isn’t just a luxury—it’s essential,” said Brian Stading, CEO of Lumos.

“At Lumos, we are committed to providing world-class fiber technology that delivers faster speeds, greater reliability, and an exceptional customer experience. We’re excited to bring our 100 percent fiber-optic Internet to Florida and become a trusted, community-focused partner for years to come.”

Without providing an exact date, Lumos said that residents will be notified when construction begins in Florida.

Virginia-based Lumos operates in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. However, the company has plans to deploy its fiber in Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama, and Illinois in addition to Florida.

T-Mobile announced last year that it agreed to acquire Lumos as part of a joint venture (JV) with EQT Infrastructure from EQT’s predecessor fund, EQT Infrastructure III.

Lumos will transition to a wholesale model, while T-Mobile will serve as the anchor tenant.

The transaction is expected to close early this year.

T-Mobile said it plans to invest $950 million in the JV to acquire a 50 percent equity stake and all existing fiber customers, with the funds invested by T-Mobile being used by Lumos for future fiber builds.

A further $500 million will be invested by T-Mobile between 2027 and 2028, the company added.
