Local officials have given the initial greenlight to a data center project outside Cincinnati, Ohio.

As reported by the Journal-News, the Hamilton City Planning Commission has recommended approval for the project put forward by Logistix Property Group.

The company is looking to develop a two-story data center totaling 310,640 sq ft of floor space. Construction is set to begin next year and last 14-16 months.

The 15-acre site, located along U.S. 127, Grand Boulevard, and University Boulevard within the University Commerce Park, is close to an existing substation, but at least one more is being planned by Logistix.

On the company’s website, Logistix said the $100 million Hamilton Innovation Center project will total 100MW. Logistix said the company is seeing “good interest by several colocation data center companies.”

Hamilton, in Fairfield Township, Butler County, is around 20 miles north of downtown Cincinnati.

News of a data center project on the site surfaced in August. The city sold the property to Logistix for $65,000, and the data center’s end user “will be a good electric consumer” for Hamilton, said Economic Development Director Jody Gunderson.

Cincinnati-based Logistix is a development company focused on data centers and industrial property including distribution, e-commerce, and last-mile facilities.

Though not a major data center market, the likes of H5, Flexential, DartPoints, DataBank, Lumen, and CyrusOne are present in Cincinnati.
