US fiber firm Lightpath has acquired WANRack’s network assets and customers in Phoenix, Arizona.

The acquisition adds 133 miles of fiber, including diverse paths between the Goodyear data center and metro Phoenix carrier hotel facilities.

This brings Lightpath’s total network footprint in the Phoenix market to 363 miles. It only entered the Phoenix market last month, announcing plans to build a 230-mile fiber network.

The company said its infrastructure will connect 10 data centers in Phoenix and will be strategically positioned near more than 30 additional single and multi-tenant data center campuses.

High-priority network segments of the under-construction network are expected to be completed in Q2 2025, with full network completion targeted for year-end 2026.

The former WANRack network is already operational.

Further details of the transaction were not shared.

“WANRack’s Phoenix business is a perfect fit with Lightpath’s recent market entry and provides a solution for solving our strategic customer’s near-term requirements,” said Rachel Stack, CFO of Lightpath. “This transaction demonstrates our creative problem-solving and commitment to innovative solutions in response to customer challenges.”

Just last month, Lightpath closed on the acquisition of the majority of assets from United Fiber and Data, and announced plans to launch a modular Edge data center.

Previously known as Optimum Lightpath, Lightpath has traditionally been telecommunications provider focused on the New York area, but has expanded its footprint over the years.

Altice USA owns a 50.01 percent interest in Lightpath, while Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners owns the remainder – buying its stake from Altice in 2020.

Altice took over Lightpath as part of its 2015 acquisition of Cablevision. Cablevision formed Lightpath around 1991 as a competitive local exchange carrier.

Headquartered in Kansas City, WANRack is a turn-key middle-mile and last-mile infrastructure provider. CBRE Investment Management is the majority owner of the business. The company said it operates across 23 US states on its website.
