Liberty Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with DC Grid to deliver off-grid gas generation to the data center sector and commercial fleet electric vehicle (EV) hubs.

Under the MoU, Liberty will deploy its digiPower mobile generator through its Liberty Power Innovations (LPI) subsidiary. The power generated will feed directly into DC Grid's off-grid modular direct current (DC) power systems, which include data center power shelves and EV chargers.

The digiPower generator generates electrical power using compressed natural gas (CNG) and claims to be the market's cleanest and most fuel-efficient engine. The system is also modular, offering capacities from 10MW to 40MW.

"Our partnership with Liberty provides us with the opportunity to offer customers fast and reliable options for power. This is especially useful for data centers and fleet EV hubs that are in long queues for service upgrades from the local utilities," said Vic Shao, CEO of DC Grid. LPI's power systems will feed directly into DC Grid's DC-based appliances. Due to its modular design, capacity can be scaled to meet customer load requirements.

According to DC Grid, its power solution can be deployed within three months for fleet EV charging hubs, while hundreds of megawatts can be deployed within 12–18 months for data centers.

The projects can be microgrid-connected, but the common voltage will be DC, according to the companies.

"By pairing our industry-leading power generation service capabilities with DC Grid's modular DC technology, we are positioned to deliver timely, capital-efficient energy solutions for high-demand sectors like data centers and fleet EV hubs," said Ron Guesk, president of Liberty Energy.

Liberty Power Innovations was launched in 2023 to provide alternative fuel and power solutions provider for remote applications.

In November, Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright was nominated to head up the incoming Trump administration's Department of Energy. The appointment was a controversial one, with Wright previously denying the scientific consensus of climate change and, in 2019, drinking a fracking fluid cocktail that contained bleach to claim that it was not harmful.

DC Grid was founded last year by Vic Shao, who helped found EV charging infrastructure startups Amply Power and Green Charge Network. The firm focuses on developing direct current-specific off-grid projects to meet demand from the artificial intelligence data center market.
