Hosting company Layered Technology said Thursday it had acquired a competing firm GSI Hosting for an undisclosed sum. As a result, Layered Tech has gained GSI's wholly-owned 77,000-sq-ft data center in Kansas City, Missouri, and other facilities in the US, Canada and Europe.

Layered Tech chairman and CEO Jack Finlayson said his company would gain talented staff, unique proprietary technology, strong compliance capabilities and new customer relationships. "This strategic combination further expands the value that we can deliver to our combined customer base as we integrate our respective technology and service capabilities," he said in a statement.

In addition to managed hosting, Layered Tech provides cloud-based on-demand IT services. The buyer said compliance-oriented products complemented its infrastructure.

GSI president and CEO Robin Greenhagen will join Layered Tech as CTO.
