South Korean telecoms and cloud firm KT has started work on a new data center in Seoul.
KT this week announced that KT Cloud has broken ground on a 50MW facility in the Ansan area of Seoul, in Gyeonggi Province.
The 36,880 sqm (396,973 sq ft) facility is set to total nine stories, with two basement floors. The facility is due live in 2029.
KT Cloud CEO Kim Bong-kyun said: "The Ansan AI Data Center is a project that incorporates next-generation design technology and power and cooling infrastructure optimized for high-density AI servers. Based on our accumulated experience in data center construction and operation and our proprietary technological capabilities, we will provide stable and efficient AI infrastructure and actively respond to the diverse technological needs of our customers.”
The project is part of KT’s plans to offer up to 1GW of AI data center capacity by 2031.
The company is also developing a 50MW facility in the Cheongna area of Incheon. Construction on the 11-story facility is set to start in Q4 of this year and be completed by Q1 2030.
The firm also recently began construction of a data center in Gunsan alongside SGC Energy. Set to initially offer 60MW and due live in Q1 2028, the site could eventually scale to 300MW.
It launched its 40MW Gasan facility, featuring liquid cooling, in November 2025. The five-story facility offers 26MW of IT capacity.
