According to a report by the Financial Times IBM is reportedly looking to sell its semiconductor business.
It has enlisted the help of Goldman Sachs to find potential buyers, although the company reportedly isn’t committed to the idea of selling up and may look for a partnership instead.
Moor Insights and Strategy analysts Patrick Moorhead told the newspaper that the move could be viewed as IBM's “biggest strategic realignment for 20 years”.
The start to 2014 has been a busy one for IBM.
At the beginning of the year it announced its US$1.2bn cloud expansion and plans to build an additional 15 data centers around the world.
The company also pitched its SoftLayer cloud to gaming companies Kuuluu and Multipla
At the end of January there were rumours of IBM putting its SDN division up for sale and only a fortnight ago IBM sold Lenovo its low-end server business for US$2.3bn
IBM and its advisers have declined to comment on the news.
