IonQ's Forte Enterprise quantum computer is now available on Amazon Braket, the cloud giant's quantum platform.
According to the company, the 36-qubit Forte Enterprise quantum processing unit (QPU) will be accessible to users in Amazon's US East (N. Virginia) cloud region.
Braket is AWS’ quantum service, allowing customers to book time on quantum computers from a number of different hardware providers. It offers access to different quantum technologies, including superconducting, trapped-ion, and neutral atom devices on pay-as-you-go pricing, or customers can reserve dedicated capacity with hourly pricing and no upfront commitments.
Rather than have quantum computers in Amazon data centers, the systems are hosted by the quantum providers in their own facilities and made available on AWS' cloud via APIs.
IonQ’s Aria-1 and Aria-2 quantum computers are already available to users via Braket. In December 2024, the quantum company announced the on-demand availability of its latest and highest fidelity quantum processor IonQ Forte via the service.
In a LinkedIn post at the time, Stefan Natu, head of product at Amazon EFS, said customers would have on-demand pay-as-you-go access to IonQ Forte for 15 hours per day, five days a week.
“With this launch, customers can use the familiar Braket SDK and APIs to access Forte Enterprise, which maintains the same capabilities that customers value in Forte-1,” IonQ said in a statement. “The device features IonQ's debiasing and sharpening error mitigation algorithms to enable advanced customer workloads. Forte Enterprise continues to use the native ZZ gate architecture, making it easy for customers to seamlessly migrate workloads between the Forte devices.”
Launched in September 2023, IonQ’s Forte Enterprise is a rack-mounted version of the company’s existing 32-qubit Forte system, which was first announced back in May 2022 and made available through the cloud in June 2023. The rack-mounted system offers 35 Algorithmic Qubits (#AQ), which is IonQ’s benchmark measure for how well a system performs.
