Hyperscale Data has completed its first installation of Nvidia GPUs at its Michigan data center.
The GPU cluster will be used by an unnamed "new Silicon Valley-based cloud services provider."
The number and type of GPUs deployed have not been shared.
According to Hyperscale Data, this is part of a broader strategy to develop its infrastructure offering for the "growing computational demands" of enterprises and cloud native applications.
The Michigan data center currently offers 28MW of IT capacity, but the company plans to expand this to 340MW over the next few years to meet the energy requirements of AI and HPC workloads.
Part of this will be powered via a behind-the-meter agreement with a natural gas provider.
The 34.5-acre Michigan site, located at 415 East Prairie Ronde Street, Dowagiac, was built in 1972 as a manufacturing space. Hyperscale is currently repurposing part of the site from Bitcoin mining to HPC and colocation. The data center was acquired in May 2022 and spans 617,000 sq ft (57,320 sqm). Hyperscale Data also has a data center in Montana, and broke ground on a 20MW facility in the state in 2023.
Hyperscale Data's CEO, William Horne, said: "The first successful installation of these servers for our customer is a large step in the right direction for the Company and its transition to a pure play data center business. We are very proud of the progress made so far and will continue to dedicate our efforts towards building out a world class data center to service the evolving needs of the AI industry.”
Hyperscale (formerly Ault Alliance) was a diversified holding company that invested in oil exploration, crane services, defense/aerospace, industrial, bitcoin mining, automotive, medical/biopharma, consumer electronics, hotel operations, and textiles. Last year, it announced a full pivot towards AI and data centers and changed its name. The company plans to divest all its non-data center assets. Hyperscale Data is now majority-owned by Ault & Company, Inc.
