In a statement, the company said the funds would be used to further the development of its optical interconnects for AI data centers and high-performance computing systems. The financing will also allow Hyperlume to expand its product, engineering, and R&D teams, and prepare for the production of its offering to meet 800Gbps and 1.6Tbps standards.

Founded in 2022 by Mohsen Asad and Hossein Fariborzi, Ottawa-based Hyperlume uses ultra-fast microLEDs and ultra-low power circuitry in its interconnects to provide performance gains over traditional copper offerings. The company says that as AI models continue to scale, providing high-performance interconnect technology is vital to overcoming bottlenecks that hinder compute performance.

"This funding represents a significant step in Hyperlume's journey as we continue to push the boundaries of optical communication and deliver transformative solutions for the AI and semiconductor industries," said Asad, co-founder and CEO of Hyperlume. "We are grateful for the trust and support of our investors who share our vision of a more efficient and sustainable future for computing."
