Oil company HF Sinclair has launched a new cooling fluid for direct-to-chip environments.

Innovate, the liquid cooling brand from HF Sinclair’s lubricants and specialties business, announced this week the launch of Innovate DTC25, a new propylene glycol-based direct-to-chip cooling fluid.

The launch expands Innovate’s liquid cooling portfolio beyond immersion cooling into direct-to-chip environments.

The company said the new product has been developed in alignment with Open Compute Project’s (OCP) Base Specification for PG25 heat transfer fluids.

DTC25 Fluid is a pre-mixed, ready-to-use heat transfer fluid formulated with high-quality propylene glycol and high-purity deionized water.

The company said the formulation uses Organic Acid Technology (OAT) inhibitors to support long-term corrosion protection against copper, steel, brass, cast iron, and aluminum, and incorporates a biostatic formulation to help maintain fluid integrity over its extended service life, freeze protection for sub-zero conditions, and fluorescent blue dye to support early leak detection.

The fluid is also free of nitrite, amine, phosphate, and silicate and designed to meet OCP PG25 materials compatibility guidelines.

Innovate noted that as the fluid is pre-mixed, operators can eliminate on-site mixing requirements and ensure a consistent fluid composition at installation, simplifying commissioning and ongoing management.

“Innovate DTC25 fluid draws on decades of experience formulating high-performance fluids for demanding OEM applications and applies that expertise to the next generation of data center cooling,” said Alex Buczek, director, new business development, HF Sinclair lubricants and specialties. “As liquid cooling architectures continue to evolve, customers need more than a fluid supplier. They need partners that understand fluid performance, system protection and the demands of critical infrastructure. Expanding into direct-to-chip cooling is a natural extension of the expertise and relationships we have built across the liquid cooling ecosystem.”

Based in Texas, NYSE-listed HF Sinclair produces gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, renewable diesel and other specialty products. The company owns and operates refineries in Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Wyoming, Washington, and Utah.

The company launched an immersion cooling fluid for data centers in 2024.

Many petrochemical firms have moved to diversify into serving data center customers. Oil companies such as Shell, Castrol, ExxonMobil, ENEOS, Gulf Oil, Petronas and Perstorp, and SK Enmove are among the businesses bringing immersion cooling fluids to market. US food giant Cargill and chemical firm Chemours have also launched fluids.

Shell added a direct-to-chip cooling fluid to its portfolio last year.

HF Sinclair was founded as Sinclair Oil Corporation in 1916, while General Appliance Corporation was founded in 1947. General Appliance Corporation changed its name to Holly Corporation, and later to HollyFrontier after acquiring Frontier Oil in 2011. The company became HF Sinclair after acquiring Sinclair Oil in 2021.
