Australian data center firm GreenSquareDC has filed to expand a recently acquired data center site in Sydney.
The company recently filed a State Significant Development application with the New South Wales Government to expand its Brookhollow Avenue campus.
The company aims to upgrade and expand the site at 3 Bookhoolow Avenue, Northwest, more than tripling the capacity of the existing building as well as developing a new building.
According to the filing, a portion of the site currently comprises an existing 4MW, 8,955 sqm (96,390 sq ft) data center that was approved back in 1993. The company aims to upgrade the existing data center to offer 14.9MW of capacity.
“In its current state, the facility is dilapidated, comprises outdated technologies, and does not respond to the evolving data storage demands of the market,” the filing said.
Renovation works include new rooftop plant equipment, new generators, fuel and water tanks, a facade, and a substation from Ausgrid.
The second stage aims to develop a new three-story data center. The 10,705 sqm (115,227 sq ft) facility will offer 80MW.
GreenSquare launched in October 2022 with plans to develop a data center in Perth, Western Australia.
Last month Swiss private equity firm Partners Group acquired the company, at the same time announcing it had acquired a former IBM facility in Sydney, New South Wales.
The Sydney site, located in the Norwest Business Park, is a former IBM/Kyndryl facility.
On its website, GreenSquare said the first phase of the SYD1 site would reuse an existing data center building providing 20MV of power and 2,400 sqm (25,830 sq ft) of whitespace. It will offer densities from 14kW fully air-cooled to 200kW+ hybrid liquid or immersion racks. The site is reportedly expandable with future greenfield development to 96MW.
