The German federal IT center ITZBund is set to build a data center in Frankfurt Rhine-Main, Germany.
The data center will provide modern IT processes for the federal administration, as well as cloud and AI platforms for government use.
The facility has capacity for more than 4,500 servers, with 42km of fiber optic and 131km of copper cable already having been laid.
The organization added that its facility is interconnected to other ITZBund data centers. It is not clear how many other facilities ITZBund operates, however, it is an anchor tenant at the nearby Maincubes FRA2 facility.
Operations are expected to commence later this year.
Alexander Heinrich, head of the infrastructure operations department at ITZBund, said: “I am very pleased that our expertise as the federal government’s central IT service provider has led to the development of cost and resource saving solutions.
“In the future, ITZBund and its industrial partners will continue to identify and implement innovation and optimization potential for its data centers as a basis for the digitalization of the federal administration.”
ITZBund provides IT services to 200 federal agencies. The organization employs 4,500 people across 12 locations in Germany. ITZBund is expected to eventually take over the majority of the government’s IT operations.
