US fiber firm FirstLight has expanded one of its data centers in Maine, US.
The company this week announced the expansion of its data center in Brunswick, Maine. The renovation project, which began last summer, doubled the power capacity at the facility.
"The level of redundancy and robust power capacity at the data center draws customers who want the highest level of uptime," said Mike Constantino, FirstLight COO. "Our advanced security features and low-latency fiber network continue to attract some of the largest and most prominent customers in the eastern United States who use our data center as a primary site for their critical applications or as a disaster recovery location."
The facility, located at 14 Resilient Circle in Brunswick Landing, is a former NATO Command and Control Center at the decommissioned Brunswick Naval Air Station. It was re-launched as a commercial data center local IT services provider Oxford Networks and Resilient Tier-V around 2011. Oxford later acquired the site outright, expanding it in 2014.
FirstLight took over the site around 2017 when its then-owner Oak Hill Capital Partners acquired Oxford Networks and merged the two companies.
According to FirstLight’s site, the facility offers 12-15kW in liquid-cooled racks and features dual independent 750kW generators.
"The most important thing we can do for our customers is to provide a firm foundation for their technology strategy and their continued success," said Jason Campbell, CEO of FirstLight. "The renovations at the Brunswick Data Center further enhance our ability to provide the highest standards of uptime and reliability. Our customers entrust us to safeguard their data, and we take that mission very seriously."
The Brunswick airport was originally built in 1935, with the Naval Air Station Brunswick opening in 1943. It was officially decommissioned in 2011.
New York-based FirstLight was founded at Tech Valley Communications in 1999 – it offers various connectivity and communication services, as well as colocation and disaster recovery. Renamed to FirstLight in 2013 after a series of acquisitions, the company was acquired by investment firm Antin Infrastructure Partners in 2018.
The company operates a 25,000-route-mile fiber network across six states; Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. It offers services from 14 data centers across its footprint, totaling more than 144,000 square feet. Its data center locations include Albany, Boston, Burlington, and Manchester.
