EvoSwitch announced the opening of Hall 6 at its Amsterdam-Haarlem campus site.

EvoSwitch’s Amsterdam-Haarlem site will now have a total capacity of 12,200 square metres. The new Hall will provide a power capacity of at least 4 Megawatts

Eric Boonstra, Managing Director of EvoSwitch, said: “The development of Hall 6 represents an important step in EvoSwitch’s on-going expansion. Our fundamental message has always been that ‘green equals cost leadership’ and we see the continued strong demand for our services as a validation of that statement.

“EvoSwitch also has a strong presence of internet companies looking to take advantage of our Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) point of presence. Our ‘IXroom’, is a secure, dedicated room inside the data centre where connections are made between networks and the AMS-IX and other present Internet exchanges.

Concepts such as indirect adiabatic cooling, which was first implemented successfully in EvoSwitch’s Hall 5 at the same site and other innovations in the construction and operation of its data centres give EvoSwitch facilities an ultra-low Power Usage Effectiveness rating of below 1.2, the company said.

Boonstra said: “From day one, we have continually pushed boundaries to innovate and be as green as possible. This applies across everything that we do – the design, infrastructure and even includes our supply chain. We use free cooling as much as possible, we make use of 100 per cent green electricity and are shifting focus from our already low PUE to reducing our Water Usage Effectiveness, or WUE.

“Five years ago when EvoSwitch started, environmental concerns were lower on the list of considerations for many businesses. Now, sustainability not only is a more important factor for stakeholders, but companies have realised that energy efficiency results in cost efficiency. This has resulted in very strong customer growth and take-up.”
