Atos-owned Eviden has partnered with IQM to install a quantum computer in France.
The Spark system will be housed at Eviden’s flagship factory in Angers, with both physical and remote access to be made available to users, the latter via an Eviden private cloud.
IQM Spark is a 5-qubit superconducting quantum computer, tailored for universities and research labs. The machine offers high single-qubit and two-qubit gate fidelity, which IQM says allows for reliable and accurate quantum applications.
In addition to use by research and academic institutions, Eviden is also planning to use the machine to further its own R&D efforts, enhancing quantum applications and integration with HPC clusters.
Access will all be provided as part of Eviden’s Qaptiva offering, the company’s quantum computing application development platform that provides users with an ecosystem of software and hardware partners.
“Hosting our very first quantum computer is a major step in our quantum computing journey,” said Dr. Cédric Bourrasset, global head of HPC-AI and quantum computing, Eviden, Atos Group. “With this milestone, Eviden now combines quantum emulation and quantum computing processing to offer a tangible solution to enter the world of quantum physics.”
Dr. Mikko Välimäki, co-CEO at IQM Quantum Computers, added: “The installation of IQM Spark, the first fully functional quantum computer at Eviden, adds to the growing network of our systems deployed globally and demonstrates our commitment to accelerate commercial quantum adoption for businesses.”
In March 2024, IQM launched IQM Resonance, a quantum cloud service that provides access to its quantum machines and systems using quantum computers located in Espoo and Munich. Three months later, the company opened its first quantum data center in Munich, which will eventually host up to 12 quantum computers with 800kW of power capacity.
That same month, the IQM-led Q-Era consortium integrated a 20-qubit quantum computer into the SuperMUC-NG supercomputer at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) in Germany.
Eviden - the Atos unit that includes its supercomputing business - also offers quantum computing simulator appliances.
