Data center infrastructure vendor Emerson has launched a new modular UPS system in the North American and South American markets.
The Liebert APM is a row-based transformer-free on-line UPS. The system's capacity can be scaled up or down in 15kW increments by adding or taking away Emerson's FlexPower core modules, which can be done without powering down connected equipment.
Peter Panfil, VP and general manager of Emerson's Liebert AC Power business, said the new system can operate at efficiencies up to 94%. The efficiency curve remains "virtually flat" at loads between 50% and 100%.
"The Liebert APM also eliminates single points of failure that are inherent in competitive products," he added.
Emerson released two models of the system: 90kW and 45kW. Available input voltages are 208V, 480V or 600V, with 208V output.
The 90kW model, which can be set up either as full 90kW of capacity or 75kW of capacity and 15kW of redundancy, comes with external battery cabinets. The 45kW model, set up either to the maximum 45kW or for 30kW of capacity and 15kW of redundancy, includes internal batteries with an option to add an external battery cabinet.
Emerson also provides an optional bypass distribution cabinet for wrap-around maintenance bypass. This enables load attached to the UPS to run on utility power during UPS service.
A monitor panel displays metering and status information, including utility power input, bypass, output and load data, battery characteristics and history and event logs.
Top and bottom cable entry ensures compatibility with raised-floor and non-raised-floor data centers. Three Liebert Intellislot ports enable optional SNMP, ModBus 485, BACnet IP and SiteScan communication protocol capabilities.
